Cognitive Regulation perspective
Trauma-focused CR works with the body and the meaning of the event together. The aim is not to forget, but to let the memory be filed correctly — as past, not present.
Common signs
- Intrusive memories, nightmares, or sudden vivid replays.
- Hypervigilance, exaggerated startle.
- Avoiding people, places or topics that 'shouldn't' bother you.
- Numbness, detachment, or 'going through the motions'.
- Guilt or shame disproportionate to what actually happened.
Trauma is not the event — it's how the event got stored
Two people can experience the same event and only one develops PTSD. The difference is largely how the nervous system encoded the experience. CR helps the system re-encode it.
